Son of popular quawwali singer Hamid Hussain, Javed changed his last name to Ali as a tribute to his guru legend Ghulam Ali. Javed's talent was evident as a child. When he was five years old, Ghulam Ali happened to hear his voice and felt the boy could become a great singer. The maestro not only guided him, but also gave him a chance to sing. From jingles and title track for TV soaps, he gradually moved to films.
It was in 2007 that he struck big time with Jab We Met's Nagada Nagada and then followed it up with Ek Din from Naqaab. After A R Rahman signed him for Jashn-E-Bahara in Jodha Akbar, there has been no looking back. The maestro repeated Ali in Sivaji's Hindi remake and Subhash Ghai's musical Yuvraaj.
